Today (March 20th, 2018) I got a request for a gig in January, 2019. I got this request from a professional event planner, so that may explain why the inquiry came in so early.

A lot of people (not usually professional planners, but volunteers from the company or organization) make the mistake of putting the hiring of entertainment on the back burner. Maybe they don't know where to start, they might be unsure of the process of booking entertainers, or maybe they figure someone will be available a week before the event.

Believe it or not, the time to start looking for entertainment for this year's holiday party season is NOW!

Why? Many reasons, the first being availability. The early bird gets the worm, and if you want the best worm to entertain at your event, well... it ain't getting any earlier. Another reason is if you wait, you may end up with a sub par act. This happened last year to a potential client I talked to. I was booked (and so were a lot of other proven acts) so they hired someone who was available. I heard later that it wasn't pretty.

If you're new to this process it could be in your best interest to hire a professional event planner. They will help you find the right entertainment, book that entertainment and help with the logistics.
