Every Show Is A Good Show... Because It Has To Be

Nov 02, 2017

I got to thinking, which is dangerous.

I was thinking about being a professional entertainer. It's weird, but when we're hired by a company or association to entertain and maybe leave a message and inspire their associates, we get one shot.

We have to be good. There are no do-overs or second chances. A plumber who messes up can come back and fix things. A restaurant can cook another dish. Even a surgeon can go back and operate on the correct leg. But an entertainer, either bad or good, is off to the next and new audience.

But entertainers have to succeed in the moment. And maybe make adjustments mid-sentence. There's no going back; what's done is done. Be good or go home.

It's a scary way to make a living, but it's something one is called to do.
