Glossophobia and Stand-Up Comedy

Glossophobia and Stand-Up Comedy.

With Halloween coming up I was trying to decide what to dress up as. I wanted to be something scary. Zombies and Scary Clowns are hackneyed. Ghosts and goblins are outdated. What can I dress up as that will REALLY scare people?

Then I got it! Glossophobia: The fear of speaking in public. (I'm not quite sure how I'm going to pull it off but I'll think of something. A podium, maybe?)

Anyway, all this thinking got me thinking: If public speaking is so feared among people, why are so many potential clients afraid to pay people to do what they fear most? And... why are so many people who do speak in front of audiences afraid to charge real money to do the thing that others fear?

Both of the above questions will probably remain unanswered. Nobody wants to answer "Because I'm cheap" to the first question. And nobody else wants to answer "Because I'm cheap" to the second question.

I suppose as long as people are afraid to ask for what their skills are worth, there will be people who will take advantage of those people.

In the meantime: Trick or Treat, Smell my feet, Come up here and give a speech.
