Incredible! Amazing! Awesome!

I've heard of hypnotists who bill themselves as Incredible, Amazing or Awesome.

Last week I did a Rusty Z comedy hypnosis show in the small farming community of Wray, Colorado. The show was for adult volunteers for the local 4H club. It was a bit of a drive and when I got there I found out the one thing I didn't want to find out.

That I was a surprise entertainer!

Oh, my name was on the program, but what I did wasn't. I was the surprise hypnotist.

Now, one thing I've learned from doing this comedy hypnotist thing for years is that the shows go much better when people have some time to get used to the idea of having a hypnotist at their event. It's kind of an uncomfortable thought for some people.

But there I was, the surprise comedy hypnotist.

So I started the show. Slowly, as I was doing my self-deprecating and disarming stand-up comedy hypnosis pre-talk, people started to relax and accept me.

Long story short, the show was a big hit. I started with 6 people on stage (out of about 55 in the attendance) and ended up with 5. One was the woman who hired me. She told me she didn't remember much of what happened when she was in trance, but one thing she said was:

"I liked it when you were making fun of yourself. It made me trust you and made me want to volunteer."

She may not have volunteered for a hypnotist that was self-important instead of self-deprecating. Sometimes being Incredible, Amazing or Awesome isn't the smart road to take.
