And so the season begins. The high school post-prom and post-grad night season where hypnotist all over the country will be entertaining high school kids at 3:00 a.m.

The shows are booked and now the work begins, the travel and the shows at ungodly hours. I just did my first show of the season and, according to the feedback I received, it was very successful.

But... I did end up turning down a few shows. Well, that's not quite accurate. Some of the prospectives clients were never heard from after I quoted them a price. Could be they found someone cheaper or decided to forgo a hypnosis show altogether. Truth is, we entertainers rarely hear back from those who don't book us.

The one that sticks in my mind, however, is the one I did hear back from. She emailed me asking me to do my show at about a 3rd of the price I normally charge. Of course I turned her down. I know what my show is worth and I know what the shows of those charging the price she was offering are worth.

Now, I don't know if she found a hypnotist at the price she was offering. I certainly hope not. Hopefully she decided to forgo a hypnotist altogether. If she did manage to hire a hypnotist at the price she was offering, my guess is that he or she is either a rank beginner or someone who is so inept that they will take anything offered to them, if just for the ego boost.

My concern is ultimately with the kids, though. Why would a parent want to go cheap when their own and others' children's subconscious minds are at stake?

Going cheap in this instance just doesn't make sense to me.
