I Don't Think Anyone From Our Group Will Volunteer

Dec 13, 2014

It's amazing how often I hear these words from potential clients: "I don't think anyone from our group will volunteer for a hypnosis show." And then, if the potential client takes a leap of faith and books a hypnosis show, it's amazing how often I hear THESE words after the show: "I don't know what I was worried about. So many people volunteered and got hypnotized, that was a GREAT show!"

It's the time span between those 2 sentences that turns apprehension into total delight. Here are the steps that have to happen to transform trepidation into satisfaction:

  1. Hire the right hypnotist for your company event. There are very few stage hypnotists who are the right fit for a company event. Most do not specialize in that market. Most make their living working with children and young adults: High school post proms, colleges and fairs. Make sure the hypnotist you hire specializes in and has several successful company event gigs under their belts. Check the testimonials they provide. (They should be able to provide testimonials.) Make sure the testimonials  come from people like you in industries like yours. Grown up hypnosis shows and kid hypnosis shows are two entirely different animals.
  2. Hire a hypnotist who builds rapport with your group by bringing something else to the table. There are a handful of stand-up comedians turned stage hypnotist out there (of which I am one). If I were looking for a hypnotist for my company event, I would choose one of them. And I'd make sure some stand-up comedy was a part of the show. And if that stand-up comedy can be customized for your group, so much the better. It's been said that laughter is the shortest distance between 2 (or more) people!
  3. Make sure to build anticipation (and acceptance) for a hypnotist show by letting your guests know that a hypnotist will be entertaining at your event. Post it in the lunchroom. Print it on the invitations and event agendas. The hypnotist should provide a banner and possibly table tents at the venue. Promote the hypnotic entertainment special, unusual and most of all, FUN (which it is).
  4. Ask the hypnotist for a written introduction. That way your evening's emcee is provided with a proper and anticipation-building intro.
  5. Have fun! If the guests see the entertainment committee having a good time, they'll follow suit. And believe me, a hypnosis show is something your guests will remember (and, if you follow the steps above) in a good way and for a long, long time!
