A Weird Thing About Hypnosis Shows

Nov 12, 2014

This month I rebooked 2 shows with past clients. One of the shows has already happened (and was highly successful), the other show takes place in May.

Booking these shows, initially, took some effort. Sending DVDs, testimonials and other marketing materials to the clients. They needed reassurance that a hypnosis show would be a good fit and "work" for their audience. And even then, they were nervous about booking the show, right up until the time the show started.

This was a totally different occurrence than when I was booking my cover band. Clients usually needed to hear one song (or short samples of a few songs) and see a set list and we were booked. We could have only done 3 songs well and the client would never know that and would have booked us anyway. Of course getting rebooked was easy as we were a competent group of musicians and our music was well-known, authentically reproduced and we were adequate showmen.

However, when I made the leap from music to comedy, and now to stage hypnosis, the booking process is different. But… the rebooking process is even easier! Once clients experience my show, the want me, and only me, back. (I've been busy and couldn't play some events and was booked at that time for NEXT year's event!)

Here's the weird thing, though: Clients who have bad experiences with a comedian or hypnotist usually never book one again. It's weird. If they have a bad experience with a band or DJ, they'll just book another band the next year, or DJ. But when it comes to comedians and hypnotists one bad apple DOES spoil the whole bunch. It's a phenomenon that's hard for me to grasp.

The good thing is, once an event booker takes a chance and does her homework (contact me about my party planning book for tips on hiring variety entertainment) rebooking is easy. And the show is usually even better the second time around.
